Janaka Podiralahamy

Communications Partner.

Janaka is a born and bred Londoner who went to the University of Brighton to read Computing and Statistics.

His first job was to help Marks & Spencer recruit the best graduates – 300 of them. That is where he got his grounding in project management. Janaka did this for three years before deciding that he wanted to put his computing degree to work. So he joined Designtech, the digital arm of corporate communications agency, Pauffley, just at the time when the internet was emerging into a primary channel for communicating. It was slow, confusing and technologically bewildering for clients. Janaka’s job was to work with clients and help them through the technical haze that surrounded websites to help them make the most of their digital communications, capture their requirements and work towards delivering the final solution.

At Pauffley, Janaka was very fortunate to work with great clients including AEGON, HSBC, BP, Uniq, Pilkington, Barclays, Unilever, GSK and Credit Suisse to name a few. Each bought different technical and communications challenges, but all were satisfying in their own way.

But after eight years he wanted a change, wanted to create something that he could be proud of, attract great clients and people to work with. So in 2006 with David Graham he started Excite. The idea was to create digital corporate communications by demystifying the technology but using it to engage with audiences through messaging, functionality, well created content and creativity – all underpinned with technology.

With technology continuing to move forward at a pace, and new platforms emerging and the traditional communications channels also changing it was what those channels could potentially do for clients that interests Janaka the most. Janaka thrives on the challenges of keeping clients up to speed with all of the advances, the art of the possible but always in relation to communications that help them connect with their audiences, tell their corporate story better and get the best value out of that they do.

He has won numerous awards for work in the past, but the project he is most proud of is GKN, a FTSE100 company, to completely rebuild their corporate website. That was a very exciting phone call.

David Graham

Creative Partner.

David studied graphics design at Falmouth College of Art, graduating in 1997.

Beginning his career at a design studio in Cornwall, Sightlines, he promptly moved to their mother agency in Soho, London. Learning through experience and environment, he developed knowledge and interest in interactive design; working on the original Walking With Dinosaurs internet presence for the BBC and producing his first website for The Reduced Shakespeare Company. This combined with developing corporate communications for Cutlers Gardens (the largest corporate property sale in London) and for ING was the basis for his belief in the importance of successful and transparent client to audience communication.

In 1999 he followed an opportunity to design and produce strategy working for Citrus Publishing. Citrus merged with John Brown Publishing in 2002, where he was made senior creative lead on digital projects for clients such as More Than and Ford. During David's time in this position John Brown became the biggest publisher of online magazine content. Moving to Pauffley in 2004 to work as a leading digital creative enabled him to really focus on digital comms; working with clients such as BP and Cinven. He developed new conceptual thinking around digital presence and integration.

Wanting to focus on corporate communications and to progress an interest in CSR, it was time to break away and set up something unique and tailored. Collaborating with Jan, Excite was born in 2006.

David has worked towards placing himself in the best creative position to help corporate companies bring to life and tell their stories to diverse audiences across multiple channels; He enjoys connecting to the stories behind companies/brands. Retaining a passion for the aesthetic compliments working strategically, generating conceptual solutions when thinking about brand developments and expression. Recognising and responding to the future of online communications is at the heart of his drive as a creative director.

He is also the proud owner of a teenager, a primary schooller, a new baby and a camper van.

Alex Botterill

Project Manager.

Alex is one of the project managers at Excite, helping to manage all aspects of client projects and helping to develop Excite's digital communications.

He graduated with a law degree in 2009 but thought that he would like to do something else with his career. So he joined ACS Construction, a large commercial construction company and began to learn the skills needed to be a project manager such as teamwork, planning, presentation, precision, numeracy and meeting deadlines.

After a while Alex got the opportunity to go around the world. He jumped at it and visited Thailand, Singapore, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand and USA. He spent 10 months away and loved every minute of it, though of course, reality hit and he ran out of money and came back to England.

On his return he re-joined the construction firm, but in a different role, out of head office, helping manage projects on site. One of the most satisfying but complex projects Alex worked on was the complete refurbishment of a London Embassy.

Looking to build on his experience and general interest of technology, he started at Excite in July 2012 and enjoys working on the diverse range of projects he has been given.

Robert Domingo

Senior Developer.

Although Robert majored in Banking and Finance in college, he did not get his first job from any financial institution after graduating in 2005. His fascination with software engineering grew whilst playing around with a simple Microsoft VBA school project. Starting with the “Hello World” message box, he knew he wanted to pursue a career in IT.

His first two years were spent developing applications for the Windows platform. The applications he built were used in the logistics and finance industry. Here, he learned the concepts of database design, networking and object oriented programming.

On his third year, he started training in web applications development. Using ASP.NET, C# and SQL, he created his first of many projects for web development.

Later on, he was introduced to Microsoft SharePoint Technologies. Fresh from his SharePoint training, he was assigned to PLDT, the Philippines’ largest and leading telecommunications company, as a SharePoint consultant. His role here included the development and maintenance of the company’s internet and intranet site. His most challenging and exciting task was the migration of the company’s site from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010.

Robert once thought that software programming is something that he would still do even if he didn’t get paid. Unfortunately, he couldn’t buy stuff with C# as currency... so he gladly accepts his salary.

For the past few years Nigel has been applying the processes and procedures from the larger corporate world to smaller start up ecommerce and design websites and has now joined Excite where he has used his experience to facilitate Company growth by introducing continuous improvement programmes, project management efficiencies and reusable documentation and procedures.

Fresh with this knowledge, Matt joined a pro-social agency in Manchester designing a number of award-winning charity websites and apps; as well as motion graphics and user-interfaces.
